Visit of Rasa Mauragis, Chairperson of the Australian Lithuanian Community, to the Lithuanian Central State Archives
On March 31, the Chairperson of the Australian Lithuanian Community and a member of the Commission of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and the World Lithuanian Community, Rasa Mauragis, visited the Lithuanian Central State Archives. During this both symbolic and practical visit, she was welcomed by the Director of the Lithuanian Central State Archives, Dalius Žižys.
At the initiative of Rasa Mauragis, a trilateral Cooperation Agreement was signed in 2022 between the Lithuanian Central State Archives, the Lithuanian Community in Australia, and the Lithuanian Archives in Australia. In 2023, archivists of the Lithuanian Central State Archives visited the Australian Lithuanian Archives in Adelaide.
During the visit to the archives, discussions were held on the prospects for further cooperation in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage. Insights were shared on the management and storage of diaspora archives, as well as on the Lithuanian state’s role in this process.
To mark the 75th anniversary of the Lithuanian Community in Australia, archivists of the Lithuanian Central State Archives interviewed Rasa Mauragis on sensitive topics concerning the Lithuanian community in Australia, recording her memories of her parents and family. The recorded footage will be made publicly available on the website www.e-kinas.lt.
